Your GP medical record contains sensitive and important information, including:
- Consultation notes
- Prescriptions
- Test results
- Allergies and vaccinations
- Medical conditions
- Documents from hospitals or other agencies
Using the NHS app or NHS website
We recommend using the NHS App or NHS website to view your GP-held health record. It’s free, secure, and gives you instant access whenever you need it.
You can choose what level of access you want:
- Appointments and prescriptions only (granted automatically)
- Full record access (enabled after a clinical review)
If you’re concerned about privacy – such as sharing devices or being in a pressured relationship – please speak to us first. Online access is optional, and you can opt out or request limited access.
What is a Subject Access Request (SAR)?
Under data protection law, you have the right to request a copy of your full medical record. This is called a Subject Access Request (SAR).
While we support your right to access your information, SARs can take time to process.
If you need access quickly or regularly, the NHS App is the best option.
